120 East 21st: Munhall
Local developer Atlas Estates is making moves in Munhall. Marking their third renovation in the neighborhood is 120 East 21st Avenue: a three-bedroom farmhouse-style dwelling that’s held its ground since 1920. On par with its neighbors, the home’s exterior is so last century (it’s a compliment). The combination of gray-blue accents and white brick emits a classic, almost-Southern feel — but it’s those subtle pops of teal that foreshadow the interior’s mixed modern-traditional aesthetic.
While not much is known about the past of this particular house, remains of its original era — even post-restoration — are prominent. Several exposed brick fireplaces offset the crisp (and continued) blue-on-white theme, as well as the kitchen’s subway tile, stainless appliances, and granite counters. Custom wooden pieces — like the kitchen’s breakfast bar and ceiling fixture — are fresh additions, though their ruggedness aptly complements perhaps the home’s most stunning original feature. Seriously…have you ever seen a staircase so perfect?
